Health Guarantee

Our baby hedgehogs are guaranteed to be free from congenital problems until age 6 months. If a hedgehog dies before the age of 6 months, we will replace the animal at no charge if given a necropsy report, complete with photos, from a licensed exotic veterinarian stating the nature of the problem was due to heredity or present at birth. As of May 2021 all hedgehogs sold will be microchipped, we must receive a photo of the microchip reading on the scanner BY the veterinarian at the time of necropsy. This is the only way we can verify the identity of the hedgehog matches our records. *All Veterinarian charges are the responsibility of the buyer.   

Hedgehogs purchased through Heartfelt Hedgehogs automatically come with a 6 month health guarantee. If the Hedgehog is vet checked either through our local vet or within 10 days of purchase at an exotic veterinarian of your choice, an additional 6 months is added to the Health Guarantee. Please keep a copy of this vet record with your paperwork. Please have the veterinarian scan and record the microchip at each office visit. 

The replacement hedgehog will carry a new health guarantee of 6 months, or 12 months if vet checked, as well as a lifetime guarantee against WHS.

Genetic Guarantee

Our hedgehogs are guaranteed for life to be free of WHS which is a genetic disorder very similar to MS in humans. The disorder causes progressive paralysis without any cure causing hedgehogs to become totally paralyzed. At Heartfelt Hedgehogs, we will never breed hedgehogs that we believe to carry the recessive gene. As of yet we have not seen any hedgehogs with WHS.

A replacement hedgehog from a different line will be provided in the event that a necropsy report is provided to Heartfelt Hedgehogs by a licensed Exotic Veterinarian within 72 hours stating that it is in fact WHS. As of May 2021 all hedgehogs sold will be microchipped, we must receive a photo of the microchip reading on the scanner BY the veterinarian at the time of necropsy. This is the only way we can verify the identity of the hedgehog matches our records.  *Owner is still responsible for all costs of veterinarian visits.
